50 × 40 cm
Acrylic & collage on recycled canvas
Unframed
Varnished and protected from UV rays
The painting is a reflection about the current social, political and economical climate. Choosing a profession of an artist often means a struggle to fit within the system that demands constant productivity and self marketing. Ola Intu deals with the feeling of exhaustion of simply trying to survive in the late stage capitalism, being flooded by endless news of conflicts, natural disasters, rise of fascism, authoritarianism and technocracy as well as adverts and brazen call to buy goods.
The character in the painting is surrounded by all of it, but somehow separate. Sleeping in the middle of flames and chaos, there is a hope in the form of nature growing inside the body, waiting to be awaken just like it always does after long winter. Reminding us that we always have been a part of nature and reconnecting with it can help us heal.
The painting was created in collage technique on recycled canvas found in the second hand shop, a practice often used by the artist to make a statement about overconsumption.
